The show

Kiss & Cry was devised in 2011. This indescribable stage production, the fruit of the joint imagination of Michèle Anne De Mey and Jaco Van Dormael, as well as an entire team of brilliant creatives, has been in a perennial state of grace ever since its first performance.

Although the basic concept concerns the whole of humanity – our memory of beings that have vanished from our territory – the innovative nature of this living show resides in its unique narrative form. Whether it’s a film projected simultaneously in the theatrical space and time through the live creation of a non-world, or simple hands that become dancing characters in the midst of miniature landscapes.

After over 300 performances across the world, over 180,000 spectators and in eight different languages, this ambitious show is the result of a team effort that challenges boundaries in all artistic disciplines in order to create a new, unique piece of work every day.

In the press

Together with choreographer Michèle Anne De Mey, Jaco Van Dormael manages one of the most surprising, inventive and moving pieces of work we could hope to see. And our tears testify to this.
Télérama - July 2013
Thierry Voisin
Kiss & Cry, the most original stage production at the moment. (…) The to-ing and fro-ing between theatre and film by this contemporary Méliès, (…) the images, whether dream-like or comical, are superb.
Le Monde - June 2013
Fabienne Darge
A love story danced with the fingers of a hand – skilfully filmed in a miniature set. (…) this visual pocket opera owes its success to a clever blend of technology and touching naiveness.
Les Inrockuptibles - December 2018
Philippe Noisette
Enchantement vertigineux, rapt hypnotique, humour, perfection d’un art
Le Figaro - June 2013
Amélie Héliot
The show Kiss & Cry offers a true mixture of genres: reality and fiction, ballet and film blend into an infinitely small and infinitely large space.
TV5 Monde - December 2018
A jewel of creativity that gives life to a heap of miniature toys simply with the magic of a camera filming in real time.
France 2 - December 2018
Youssef Bouchikhi
Kiss & Cry is an atypical show. The spectator witnesses live the creation of a feature film in which the main characters are dancing hands. The show challenges the boundaries of all artistic disciplines in order to create before our eyes a unique performance every evening.
